James Nesbitt, famed for his roles in “The Hobbit” and “Cold Feet,” is set to join a stellar lineup of celebrities for the Irish Open Pro-Am at Royal County Down this September. The announcement, made on Wednesday, highlighted Nesbitt alongside Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty and former Ireland rugby stars Tommy Bowe and Johnny Sexton as the initial celebrities confirmed, with more names expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Nesbitt, originally from Ballymena, praised the Royal County Down course, stating, “It’s a gorgeous course with some of the most stunning views in Northern Ireland. I’m thrilled to be participating in the Amgen Irish Open Pro Am this September. I’ve played in a few before, and they’re always a fantastic day filled with great fun.”
In addition to Nesbitt, Hollywood golfer and current world number two, Rory McIlroy, will also be participating, aiming to add a second Irish Open title to his accolades after his victory at The K Club in 2016.

Joining McIlroy in the competition will be 2019 Open Championship winner Shane Lowry, three-time Major Champion Pádraig Harrington, and two-time PGA TOUR winner Séamus Power, enriching the roster with their presence.
Royal County Down is set to host the Amgen Irish Open for the second time in its history from September 11-15, marking the event’s return to Newcastle for the first time since 2015.
With a high demand expected for the event, those interested in attending are encouraged to secure their tickets soon to avoid missing out. Tickets are available for purchase through the official event link provided.
