Past champion Shane Lowry has been confirmed to compete at this year’s Amgen Irish Open at the prestigious Royal County Down, set to take place from September 12-15, 2024. Tickets for the event are now available for purchase.

Shane Lowry, who first claimed victory at the Irish Open in 2009 as an amateur at County Louth, making him one of the few to win a DP World Tour event before turning professional, will return to the historic tournament. Having finished in a commendable third place in this year’s competition, the twice Ryder Cup player is eager to clinch his national open once more.

Lowry expressed his anticipation, stating, “The Irish Open ranks among the finest tournaments globally, and I’m thrilled about playing at Royal County Down. After nearly securing another win earlier this year, I’m confident in my ability to reclaim the title. The overwhelming support we receive as Irish players never ceases to inspire me, especially the vibrant cheers that greet us at the first tee.”

Amgen, which took over the sponsorship of the Irish Open starting in 2024 after acquiring Horizon Therapeutics plc in October 2023, has shown a strong commitment to the event.

Royal County Down, which first hosted the Irish Open in 2015, offers fans a chance to witness some of the world’s top golfers at a venue ranked third on the Top 100 Golf Courses global list.

The Amgen Irish Open holds a significant place on the DP World Tour’s Global Schedule as part of ‘The Back 9’, a series including nine of the Tour’s most historic tournaments and national opens running from August to October. The top 110 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings in partnership with Rolex will secure their playing rights for 2025, and the top 70 will progress to the season-ending ‘DP World Tour Play-Offs’.

Last year saw Sweden’s Vincent Norrman secure his second DP World Tour title with a stunning final round at The K Club, edging out Hurly Long by one stroke. Since its inception in 1927, the Irish Open has celebrated numerous distinguished champions such as Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Rory McIlroy, Pádraig Harrington, and many others.

With tickets quickly selling out, fans are advised to secure their spots soon. Besides general admission, a limited number of Premium Experience options, including The Ballroom and Green on 18 packages, are available, along with Ticket+ options. Click here for more details and to purchase tickets.
